Staying at America’s Oasis Off-Road Resort in Waynoka, Oklahoma
Starwood Explores the Sand Dunes: America’s Oasis Off-Road Resort in Waynoka, Oklahoma
When Wendi with an “i” and the whole amazing team reached out to Starwood to come up and explore America’s Oasis - the newest Little Sahara Sand Dunes offroad resort, we couldn’t resist. With roads that back right up to the Little Sahara entrance and RV spots enough to fit any riding group we packed up and headed the 3 hour drive from Ardmore, Oklahoma to go slide around in the sand.
Buckle up as we take you through six essential tips based on our first-hand experience.
1. Orange Safety Flag - Your Off-Roading Passport
When venturing into the Little Sahara State Park desert, an orange safety flag is your golden ticket. At Starwood Powersports, we recommend the full-attached flag for stability. Trust us, losing flags and going back to retrieve them can be a real challenge. The flags that come in 3 pieces seemed to break too easily, especially in the little trail sections of the riding areas.

2. Check-In Essentials - Plan Your Entrance
Before hitting the dunes, make a pit stop at the entrance. A $10 per person per day fee awaits, ensuring you're all set to conquer the sandy terrains.
All vehicles must have a whip extending 10 feet from the ground and a 6" x 12" solid orange flag within 10" of the whip's tip.
Vehicles must have bright white front and red rear lights powered by the vehicle for night use.
Dune buggies and 4x4 vehicles must have a roll bar and seat belts for each passenger.
Oklahoma law requires children under 8 to be secured in a child passenger restraint system.
Helmets are strongly suggested; required for anyone under 18 in vehicles without a structured roll cage.
No double riding on ATVs unless the vehicle is designed for passengers.
Park is open 24/7. Pay fees at the park office or kiosks if the gate attendant is unavailable.
Alcohol is strictly prohibited in the dune riding area.

3. Sunscreen - Your Shield Against the Desert Sun
The sun in Waynoka is relentless. Don’t let it catch you off guard; pack sunscreen to protect yourself from unexpected rays and keep the adventure burn-free.
4. Hydration Station - Water is Your Riding Companion
Adrenaline, wind, and occasional sand snacks – you'll need water to keep the thrill alive. Stay hydrated and make the most of your off-road experience.
5. Essential Gear - Paddle Tires and Baklavas
For optimal ATV and UTV performance, invest in paddle tires for superior traction on the sandy dunes. The ride difference between having them and not having them is unparalleled and truly the safer choice. And don't forget your baklava – a must-have to shield yourself from wind and sand.

6. Lights, Camera, Action - Test Your Equipment
Before the adrenaline rush kicks in, ensure your GoPro and recording devices are up to the challenge. Test them beforehand to avoid missing out on capturing those epic off-road moments.
Did we forget to do this the first time? Of course we did. The combination of sand and wide open spaces of the beautiful Oklahoma terrain had us distracted. Don’t let it happen to you!
Our journey at America’s Oasis Off-Road Resort was nothing short of thrilling. With riders in our group ranging from 2-60 years old, the sandy dunes cater to all ages. We even tested the Maverick Car Turbo against a Polaris Turbo Razor – both handling the terrain admirably.
